06 May 2004 Trip to South Africa

Today we visited with Bruce Bayer in his greenhouse and home, located on the outskirts of Cape Town.  Like everyone we met in South Africa, Bruce was a most kind and gracious host.  He spend the day with us, looking at and talking about his Haworthia plants. 

In the evening we drove up the road and took Kobus Venter to dinner.  I ate Gemsbok in monkey gland sauce, a tasty treat that is hard to come by back home in Denver.  Returning late, we did not get an opportunity to see Kobus' Haworthia collection, but he invited us back for a day in the field on May 17th, an offer we gladly accepted.
