08 May 2004 Trip to South Africa SW Riversdale

We next drove to the Southwest Riversdale where Gerhard directed us to the beautiful Haworthia retusa, in cultivation as GM304.  This is a gorgeous solitary retusa that was looking very good on this day.

Down the road a bit we visited Droerivier where Haworthia magnifica var magnifica was found.  This spot is the location where Gerhard collected GM392 and is probably where Bayer's MBB6651 originated.  This  Haworthia is a tiny atrofusca-like magnifica and is growing in a very exposed spot and  was quite dehydrated.

We ended this "SW trip" by stopping at Vermaaklikheid at the type locality of Haworthia paradoxa (Haworthia mirabilis var. paradoxa) where it grows in the crannies of white limestone cliffs.
